Our topic for the spring term was- A Passport to Europe. We have learned about the countries which are part of Europe and then we have chosen to study The Netherlands in more detail. We chose this because it has certain similarities to where we live, low lying agricultural land with a climate comparable to ours. We have done a lot of research into what makes Holland special. We have made windmills. In art we have studied the designs on delft pottery and used these to decorate a pot holding pansies for Mothering Sunday. We have learnt songs and looked at the legend of the boy who put his finger in the dam to save the village from flooding.
Mrs Tomes also asked her auntie to come and talk to us about Holland, she showed us a slide show of photographs she has taken while visiting the country. She told us about the famous bulb fields and their cheese industry. Afterwards we got to sample some Gouda cheese.
