Lightning (Year 1 & 2)
Hello from Lightning Class!
Our teacher is Miss Yates and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Woods.
Infant school trip to Martin Mere
On Friday 9th June Harriers and Lightning class enjoyed a busy day at Martin Mere. The children had a fantastic time and were very well behaved.
We spent time pond dipping and identifying the creatures we found. We looked at the otters and found out some information about them.
Then we went on an adventure in the wild walk area. The children decided which way they wanted to explore. They especially liked the narrow bridge walk.
Another favourite part of the day was the play area with a very tall slide, water area and zip line.
What a fantastic trip!
The Great Outdoors
The infants have enjoyed exploring and investigating our fantastic outdoor area this half term. We have been finding and investigating different materials and their properties. We made natural material pictures and fantastic messy maps.
The children loved their 'Outdoor Classroom Day'. They spent time making waterproof and comfortable dens. They painted using natural material paintbrushes. They went pond dipping and caught lots of tadpoles.
The children have loved learning outside!
We love learning new things and working with our friends.
Have a look at some of the great things we have been doing this year.
Make sure to come back regularly because we are always adding new things.
Growth and Greenfingers
We have really enjoyed this topic and have been able to investigate and explore how plants grow.
We have planted and grown Broad Beans and also Cress. We are very impressed with our Cress Heads.
We became artists for the afternoon and made observational drawings and painted like artists Monet and Rousseau. We gave each other two stars and a wish for our paintings and decided if they looked similar to Monet's or Rousseau's masterpieces.
We went on a leaf hunt and identified the trees in our school grounds, we then used what we had learnt to identify leaves from other trees we didn't see.
We finally made fruit kebabs and thought about the design we would have. We talked about the different fruits and what was our favourite. We then cut, chopped and peeled the fruit to make our kebabs. We thought about why we needed to wash our hands before this and then how we might use the equipment safely.
It has been a very busy half term but the children are really looking forward to their new topic and so am I!
